A natural site offering an admirably rich landscape in the heart of the Aiguillon Bay reserve, a great place for a stroll.

To get to the Pointe de l'Aiguillon by car, it's easy: once you arrive in L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer, this natural site is signposted. To reach it, you will drive along about 8 km of dyke. This road is the only one that runs along the coast and ends in a car park where you can park. To the north of the Bay of Aiguillon, this sandy point was once a protection for ships. Located at the southernmost point of the coast, it offers an admirable wealth of landscape. It protects the polders of the Marais Poitevin and is a place of passage and parking for many birds because of its funnel shape. A real break between the marsh and the sea, this tongue of sand fascinates walkers who discover a maritime space where dunes (classified), mudflats and salt meadows cohabit. The Pointe de l'Aiguillon is shaped by the currents of the Lay and the ocean, it is the closest point to the Pointe de Saint-Clément, on the coast of the neighboring department, Charente-Maritime. Remarkable site located in the middle of a migratory axis, the Pointe de l'Aiguillon delights holidaymakers with the extraordinary spectacle offered each year by more than 400,000 migratory birds, between 70 and 80 species. The discovery of the Pointe de l'Aiguillon as a migration site dates back to 1989. Here, you are in the heart of the nature reserve of the Bay of Aiguillon. A sensitive and magnificent area, it is a magical place to walk, which must absolutely be preserved.
