In the south of the Vendée coastline, La Tranche-sur-Mer has kept the typical aspect of the marsh habitat: low houses with white walls, tiled roofs... Three districts outside the town centre are attached to it: La Grière, the hamlet of La Terrière and the lighthouse district. The quiet cove of Maupas offers 13 kilometers of fine sandy beaches facing the island of Ré (whose bridge can be seen in good weather!), a promise of relaxation and swimming, but it is also one of the top places for windsurfing, meeting the ideal conditions for its practice. Windsurfers call it "Little California". La Tranche-sur-Mer was awarded the "European Windsurfing Resort" label in 1991. This reputation allows us to provide a water sports centre on the Maupas lake (5.5 hectares) for beginners. The town also has the "Family +" label. The commune covers 1,363 hectares of varied landscapes of dunes, forests forming the dune massif and marshes (which occupy 50% of the surface area of the commune and which are composed of natural meadows). Towards the Groin-du-Cou point, 440 hectares of holm oaks and maritime pines await lovers of shady paths. For information, each summer the summer population is close to 100,000 people ... Nearby, the Bay of Aiguillon, bird sanctuaries and the Marais Poitevin (to discover by boat or canoe) two steps, offer very pleasant walks
