Georges Clemenceau lived here! Born in Mouilleron-en-Pareds, he lived his childhood here, at the Château de l'Aubraie (listed as a historic monument), before going to study in Nantes. At La Touche, a former commandery of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem; at Le Berg, a well-preserved old water mill; the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption in Le Bourg, houses one of the oldest bells in the Vendée. In Châteauroux, a castle was built on the remains of an ancient Roman fortress destroyed in 1794 during the Vendée war. L'Angle Guignard, a dam built in 1950, is a 55-hectare drinking water reserve and is a favourite with fishermen.
