A strategic position during the Vendée wars has marked its past. First occupied by groups of Vendéen peasants under the orders of Joly in March 1793, it served as a starting point for the attacks in which this general participated against Les Sables-d'Olonne. To protect its port, a Republican garrison was installed in La Mothe-Achard. The town was almost totally destroyed in March 1794, when Turreau de Linières organized his infernal columns. Its location between La Roche-sur-Yon and Les Sables is a strong attraction. To be seen: the metal structure halls of the architect Libaudière and the Bibrou water level for fishing.
