Jard-sur-Mer is bathed by the ocean on 7 kilometers of coastline where rocky areas - ideal for fishing - and beaches of fine sand alternate. It has a complete natural environment: a forest area of 250 hectares - representing 21% of the area of the town - composed of maritime pines and oaks secular; the marshes - 85 hectares -, refuges of fauna and flora protected, will delight walkers. A variety of beaches (two of which are supervised) often bordered by footpaths and creeks, including the pretty Plage de la Mine. By the way, do you know where the beach of the Mine gets its name from? From a small silver mining operation which, for three centuries, dug into the cliff, hence the name! Don't miss the Pointe du Payré, its forest of holm oaks and the hiking trails along the cliffs: magnificent! Among the other treasures of Jard's heritage: the Lieu-Dieu abbey founded in 1198 by Richard the Lionheart, the 11th century Sainte-Radegonde church with its sculptures of monsters on the bell tower, the Sainte-Anne chapel with its statue, both dating from 1650, and of course the marina and the Conchette mill overlooking it. Jard-sur-Mer will charm you with the diversity of its landscapes between beaches, forest, marshes, its town and its port where the tourist activity is located. The ideal way to enjoy this small resort 30 minutes from Les Sables-d'Olonne is to rent a bike or a rosalie.
