South of Oloron-Sainte-Marie, Eysus is a little corner of paradise. But the commune did not wait until our contemporary era to be inhabited and the discovery of a polished axe from the Neolithic period or a Visigothic coin will not say otherwise! Cited as early as 1077 under the name of Isuici and then in 1244 by that of Ezus, it was a well-known stage of the pilgrimage of the Way of Compostela. To the north of the village, the large 6-metre tower of the manor of Bois Labory will surely call out to you, it would have been built under Gaston II le Preux, Viscount of Béarn. Crossed by the Gave d'Aspe and its tributaries, the streams Ourtau and Arrigouli, Eysus may enchant you. Its Saint-Pierre church is remarkable: originally Romanesque, it was rebuilt in the 16th and 17th centuries. Its broken pediment on the south aisle dates from the 13th century and is surmounted by white marble ramparts, it is exceptional.
