Designated a "Petite Cité de caractère" (small town of character), this medieval and Renaissance architectural ensemble showcases its 11th-century church, a veritable jewel of Romanesque art. The extraordinary central portal features an archivolt with suggestive sculptures, among the finest bequeathed by artists from the Lower Poitou region, where pagan sculptures blend with religious themes. Two sculpted tympanums enhance two blind arcades. Don't miss the 16th-century halles, the former priory (now the town hall) with its four fireplaces featuring carved coats-of-arms and 16th-century vaulted ceiling, and the Renaissance home of François Laurent.
