Damvix faces the river Sèvre and its adjacent conches. The commune is part of what is known as the Marais Poitevin, an ancient gulf of Poitou stretching over 96,000 ha between the ocean and the Vendée plains to the north, the Deux-Sèvres to the east and the Aunis plain of Charente-Maritime to the south. Damvix covers 1,165 ha, of which around 900 ha are wet marshes! The slipways where the boats are moored are located on the conches, which penetrate far enough into the village to give the market gardener access to the network of canals right from his front door. Admire the curious passe-bateaux! Some of these structures are equipped with slides.
