The medieval village of Bazoges-en-Pareds is dominated by a high dungeon, whose renovation in its original aspect is due to the municipality which bought it in 1989. A keep of 6 floors offering a magnificent 360° view on the Vendée bocage. A watchtower with its guardroom are the only remains of the 14th century castle. It was built by the members of the Lusignan family, feudal lords of an extensive domain in the region. It is restored and furnished on its six floors and houses a museum of art and popular tradition characterizing the dwelling of the late 19th century with its bakery and its forge. A must-see is the medieval-inspired garden with its varieties of ancient plants according to the Capitulary of Villis and organized around squares of vegetable plants, herbs and "witchcraft" plants. At the bottom of the garden, an orchard. On the grassy courtyard stands a magnificent 16th century dovecote surrounded by a collection of old rosebushes. Proof of a very ancient occupation, the territory of Bazoges-en-Pareds is strewn with numerous megaliths, all of which are classified as Historic Monuments: dolmen of the Landes, dolmen of the "Pierre-Folle des Cous", tumulus of the "Ciste des Cous", a funerary chamber of the Neolithic age, which would be the oldest monument of the Vendée. The circular stone building is in remarkable condition. At the time of the excavations, it contained the remains of more than a hundred skeletons, and craft objects of the period.
