The first traces of human life in the area are the Celtic burial mounds in the Bannholz forest. The most interesting Gallo-Roman site accessible on foot from Mollkirch is the Purpurkopf. Mollkirch has a rich history, because the village is closely linked to its castle, the Guirbaden, which is perched at a strategic point overlooking the valley of the Magel. It was in Mollkirch that the first manifestations of the peasants' revolt called the Peasants' War took place. The Kloesterlé chapel, located at the exit of Laubenheim, is the oldest building of the commune. It dates from 1135.
