This small town of 2,500 inhabitants enjoys an exceptional natural setting. Its national forest covers 3,500 hectares and surrounds a 35-hectare lake. A stopover for pilgrims on their way to Mont Saint-Michel in the Middle Ages, Sillé-le-Guillaume today is first and foremost a town for strolling. It's as much a pleasure to stroll on the surrounding hills overlooking the countryside and forest, as it is in town around the château, which was built in place of a fortress in the 15th century and has undergone a number of changes, or the Romanesque-style church of Notre-Dame, which was once a castral collegiate church and is now listed as a Monument Historique.
