Henri d'Albret, King of Navarre and Count of Foix-Béarn, brought this peaceful village to life in the 16th century. His grandson, the future Henri IV, spent his childhood at the castle of Coarraze, one of the twelve baronies of Béarn, with a medieval keep and a 16th century portal. Thereafter, agriculture and weaving were the links of its success. You can also discover, in the Town Hall Square, the dolmen of Hours Barzun, tomb of the 2nd millennium BC, witness of a megalithic burial preserved in its original structure. You will also find in the town the Saint-Vincent church, of which there is still a 16th century chapel, the bell tower-porch. All these witnesses show that Béarn, lagging behind Northern France, was still building in flamboyant Gothic style at that time.
