What a hospital name! In fact the official name is simply Douillet what already means something… This mitoyed sarthoise of Fresnay-sur-Sarthe has just over 300 inhabitants. When you discover the village, you understand that it is a good name. Built in amphitheater on a hill, at the bottom of which flows the river d 'Orthe appreciated by fishermen, it offers a beautiful image. The other fiefdoms are spread over a vast green and humid area, bathed by the Orthe but also Sarthe. The presence of an agricultural area is confirmed in this territory from the Fifth Century. It is also known that Douillet-le-Joly was on the pilgrims route to Mont-Saint-Michel or Santiago de Compostela. The presence on the territory of several crooked sandstones was demonstrated by the presence on the territory of several crosses. In the nineteenth century, the peasants of Douillet-le-Joly, who lived in culture and livestock, opened up to the industry with 3 wheat mills, the Aune forge (copper mill) and about fifty woven trades. It is difficult to imagine that this municipality had 1 200 inhabitants! Until the Revolution of 1789, it was composed of major seigneurial domains, including the one of Moré, perhaps the oldest (xiiith century). The castle was built in a picturesque location on a hill overlooking Sarthe. It is now private property.
