On the Le Mans/Chartres axis, 19 km south-west of La Ferté-Bernard, Connerré - with less than 3,000 inhabitants - was for a long time a stopover and trading centre. The arrival of the railway in 1854 boosted local industry. In the 1920s, Connerré was an industrial town with three tanneries, two mechanical canvas factories and a pottery. Another local specialty acquired at that time: rillettes! We owe it here to Albert Lhuissier who had bought a small business that he transformed into a delicatessen. His business sense made the commune the cradle and capital of rillettes. The A11 motorway passes to the north of the town, served by the Connerré-Beillé railway station, 1.5 km from the town centre. You should also know that the end of the LGV Atlantique high-speed train line is currently located in this town crossed by the Huisne and the Dué rivers. Leather goods and charcuterie continue to mark the local economy. In August, on the last Saturday of the month, the festival Les Troubles villes takes place in Connerré, bringing together street artists, actors, musicians, circus performers, etc. If you have the choice, come on Wednesday morning. It is market day in Connerré, one of the most beautiful markets of the Sarthe.
