The town is worth a stop to take the time to visit it along the Mayenne river which crosses it and gives it a unanimously acclaimed character. It has many remarkable architectural monuments: its two castles, of course, but also its basilica of Avesnières, its half-timbered houses, its ramparts, its Beucheresse gate, its private mansions... Statues make it possible not to forget that it is also the birthplace of the surgeon Ambroise Paré, of the writer Alfred Jarry, of the naive painter Henri Rousseau and of the navigator Alain Gerbault, the first to have carried out a crossing of the Atlantic in solo.
