The name of this commune in the Upper Anjou comes from the Latin Secretum which means "isolated". At the gateway to Brittany, Segré is the heart of the Blue Anjou, a land of nature with many faces: green on the surface with its hedged farmland and rivers, and the colour of slate underground, the home of the underground miners! The Blue Mine offers an unforgettable visit as you go 130 m deep to discover the slate extraction of the past centuries. Among the emblematic monuments, we count the castle of La Lorie, perfectly symmetrical and magnificently decorated, as well as the majestic castle of Challain-la-Potherie which astonishes by its prodigious dimensions
