This atypical commune allows you to follow in the footsteps... of the Vendée wars. As you approach the south of the department, the Vendée influence becomes more and more visible, and Val-du-Layon is one of the first posts. You can go to the Pont-Barré, where clashes between Republicans and Royalists took place in 1793, or walk along the Coteau des Martyrs. In this walk on the hillside, you will see statues and calvaries commemorating the bloody battle that opposed the troops of General Grignon to the Catholics in this place, in 1794. A beautiful place of remembrance to understand more about French history.
