Pouancé occupies a strategic place in the geography of the department. Bordering the Loire-Atlantique and Ille-et-Vilaine, it has long been an invaluable bulwark in the quarrels between Anjou and Brittany (in the historical sense). The city is very invested in the conservation of its heritage, offering visitors a journey back in time. The medieval atmosphere persists thanks to the medieval enclosure still in good condition, the castle and its remarkable lordly dovecote, its salt storehouse classified as a historical monument as well as its Clock Tower, known as the Angevin Gate, which was the only access to the town
