Today a delegated commune of Gennes-Val de Loire, Les Rosiers-sur-Loire owes its name not to the flowers, but to the brambles or "rosers", which have long flooded the region. In the Middle Ages, the country was covered by the Beaufort forest, and it was not until the 12th century that the village was cleared and the land became arable, protected from the floods of the Loire. There are still many horticultural farms in the area today. Classified as a "Village fleuri de France", the area offers pleasant walks, especially by bike, between tufa stone buildings and the banks of the Loire, which are as sublime in the morning mist as at sunset.
