If Les Rairies is today a quiet little town with a few historical monuments (as there are many in the region), it has nevertheless occupied a key place in the industrial and mining development of the country. In the 15th century, King René, seeing the richness of the soil, decided to extract the stone and exploit the clay. The village's craftsmanship became so renowned that the king had the "Rairie lime" used throughout the kingdom. The extraction of the stones and their transformation went on well until the 19th century, when the industrial production of lime began to develop.
