First labelled as a charming village and then as a small town of character, Le Puy, as it is called here, is often an unforgettable stopover for travellers. Its charming cobbled streets exude a quiet strength, a memory of the history that proudly identifies the town (it was one of the thirty-two walled towns of Anjou). If the Ponots live quietly today, it was not the same for their predecessors. Oppressed by the English occupation in the 14th century, the inhabitants saw their town sacked and destroyed during the Wars of Religion, and again in the 18th century during the Wars of the Vendée.
