An active village since the Middle Ages, the lordly family of the time modestly gave its name to the town. Initially comprising a castle and a church, the town grew when monks settled there and established it as a priory. The religious influence has remained through the ages as the town hall is now housed in the former presbytery. The popular traditions of the Anjou region such as the boule de fort still have a place of choice. One should not miss the various mills of the town as well as the castle of Montriou which offers an opening on the world with English and Italian gardens
