Visit the Parlementia district, where whaling was practiced in Bidart.

The existence of the parish of Bidart goes back to the XIIth century and, until 1633, Bidart and Guéthary formed a single village. In the 17th century, Bidart had a port located at the mouth of the Uhabia river. Whale hunting was practiced there, from September to March. Over time and with the storms, the port silted up. The cliff of Parlementia, inserted between the hold of Guéthary and the port of Uhabia, was the stronghold of the fishermen with the chapel.
