This commune is one of the oldest in the department. Between 2009 and 2011, two prehistoric sites were discovered: one dating from the end of the first Iron Age (around -700) and the other from the second (between -450 and -25). Castles, churches, priories, wash houses, mansions, troglodyte farms, mills... The large number and diversity of monuments in this small town of barely 500 inhabitants shows the importance it has retained over the centuries. It played a major cultural role in the department until the 20th century, as it was here that the very first boule de fort tournament was organised in 1905.
