Because of the island's position, the inhabitants of Béhuard ("Petite Cité de caractère") have learned to live with floods. The impressive flood scale located near the church attests to these events. The last rise in water level, in 2000, reached 5.59 m, the lowest ever recorded! On this island of breathtaking landscapes where time seems to have stopped, each inhabitant keeps a boat in reserve, somewhere in his garden, just in case... The island is 3 km long and invites you to take a stroll and to meditate, whether in the small Marian chapel or in front of the immense calvary of the solemn open-air oratory.
