Saint-Maurice Cathedral in the Angevin Gothic style, with an imposing high altar with a baroque canopy and magnificent organs

Overlooking, from the top of its 73 meters, a hundred or so steps that lead to the Maine and the Doutre, this cathedral perfectly illustrates the Gothic style of Anjou. Its neo-Gothic pulpit, created by a talented abbot, its imposing high altar with a baroque baldachin and its magnificent organs supported by giant atlatls form a rich ensemble, faithful to the ostentation of the period. The polychrome portal, entirely painted, dates from the 12th century. After several years of restoration, the original colours are shining again.

Cathédrale Saint-Maurice 49100 Angers
La Cathédrale Saint-Maurice était en travaux lors de ma visite, à l'occasion du week-end de l'Ascension, mais il était tout de même possible d'admirer le haut de la façade avec ses différents personnages et l'intérieur entièrement accessible. J'ai tout particulièrement apprécié le maître autel et la chaire de toute beauté ainsi que les différents vitraux, même si l'une des rosaces était aussi en réfection. Cette cathédrale vaut, selon moi, la visite.

a visiter au moins pour la chaire
L'extérieur est actuellement en travaux,mais il faut entrer pour voir les vitraux de 12éme et surtout la chaire qui est juste magnifique, le travail est exemplaire, on peut passer un grand moment à essayer de voir tous les détails.
Des guides sont à votre dispositions pour vous donner toutes les explications possible sur la cathédrale, elles sont très disponibles et avec une grande culture du lieu.

Some of the facade was in renovation, but it does not take away from the majesty of the building where we accessed through a stole of marches indicating the value of the spiritual face to the temporal (nearby castle) inside, beautiful stained glass, an extraordinarily rich chair, beauty, and beautiful oranges. (among other things)-You have to take the time to discover the paintings and tapestries, and the extraordinary altar. You can only be amazed… Cherry on the cake = profusion of explanatory panels to understand what we see!
