The history of Nort-sur-Erdre is closely linked to the presence of the Erdre, the most beautiful river in France according to François I. Moreover, today the town is recognised as a "Green Resort" for the richness of its river and natural heritage with its many charms. Nort-sur-Erdre owes its history to the curious destiny of this river, which was born in La Pouëze in Maine-et-Loire and which, after a capricious course, becomes gentler in Nort before flowing into the Loire in Nantes. Nort was not spared either by the Wars of Religion or by the Wars of the Vendée. But it grew and became more beautiful with its river port and its magnificent lake.
