MadiranThe village of Madiran (65) is more than a pleasant title to visit. Located on a height, it dominates the vineyards of the name that bears its name. Its architecture deserves a detour as well as its history. It is known that Benedictine monks settled there in the th century, followed by the Jesuits in the th century. With its abbey that builds its reputation, Madiran is a good place to wear and evoke hatred and excitement. Looted and burned by the Huguenots in 1569, church and priory, like vineyard, suffer. Born of the Benedictine work, this vineyard dates back to the th century with a wine of priests, very popular over the centuries. But monastic life ceased in 1950 when monks left. In addition to the vineyard, the church of the th century and the priory with, recently the Maison des Vins, surrounded by a beautifully renovated castle.
