Traces of habitation have been found in Souchez since antiquity! Since then the village has been destroyed many times. In the Middle Ages, Souchez was devastated by Flanders, in war against Philippe Auguste, in 1213, then again in 1303. The Hundred Years War did not spare the town. In the 20th century, Souchez was at the heart of the Artois battles, during the Great War. The town was completely destroyed in 1915. "The village disappeared" wrote Henri Barbusse in Le Feu. Among the must-see places to visit, the garden of the Lorette cemetery, as well as the stone stoup, which you can admire in the Saint-Aignan church.
