This small town of 5,200 inhabitants was hit hard by the wars, the remains of the past of Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise are rare. Only the 18th century chapel of the Black Nuns, which houses the museum, and a few old houses have been spared. After the Second World War, the city was rebuilt and modernized as evidenced by the architecture of the town hall and church, characteristic of this time of renewal. However, the town, quite active economically, nestled in a preserved nature, crossed by the Ternoise, retains its image of city in the countryside thanks to its large wooded park
