Hard-hit by the wars, the remains of Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise's past are rare. Only the 18th century chapel of the Black Sisters, which houses the museum, as well as a few old houses, have been spared. After the Second World War, the town was rebuilt and modernised, as evidenced by the architecture of the town hall and the church, characteristic of this period of renewal. However, the town, nestled in a preserved nature, crossed by the Ternoise river, retains its image of a town in the countryside thanks in particular to its large wooded park.
