25 kilometers south of Lille, the town of Oignies is famous for its particular geographical location in the heart of the mining basin, which has long been the lifeblood of the region. Today, resolutely turned towards the future, the town nevertheless relies on its past in order to make this part of its history known, but also to revitalize itself. The Mine and Railway Center and the 9-9 bis pit, known as Declercq-Crombez, which combines its mining heritage with artistic events, are proof of this. The Saint-Barthélemy church and the Saint-Joseph church are also worth a visit during your tour of the city.
