Located between Arras and Lens, Neuville-Saint-Vaast has a population of around 1,500. Totally destroyed during the First World War, the village patiently rose from its ashes like a phoenix and rebuilt itself: which is why the bird has become its emblem today. The village can be spotted from afar thanks to its bell tower and its pretty houses dating from the 1920s and 1930s, which are much appreciated by visitors. In addition to the Targette Museum, the village is home to the Targette National Necropolis and the Maison Blanche German Military Necropolis, where the remains of servicemen from the First and Second World Wars are laid to rest.
