Very modern and very clean, Artix is nevertheless a city with an ancient history. The village already existed in the cartularies of the Middle Ages. The city came out of the shadows thanks to the creation under the reign of Henri IV of a royal road that crossed it, becoming even an important market in Béarn. This road became imperial road under Napoleon III and then today simply national road 117. Close to the deposit of Lacq, Artix also knew a certain revival with the arrival of the workers and thus a development and constructions to accommodate them. Among its specificities, proving its link with tradition, the town has a calandreta (school in linguistic immersion in Occitan).
