Gone is the Audomarois, gone is the Flanders! Watten symbolizes the perfect transition town between the two parts, the Aa acting as a border. A small town in the Heart of Flanders which rises 72 m, it was once a marshy area crossed by the mountain road, a Roman road linking Cassel to Boulogne, hence the name Watten, ford passage. Today Watten is a peaceful place, almost entirely dedicated to leisure activities and to the discovery of a rich natural area, in particular with the site of the Blue Lake, a departmental natural area with preserved biodiversity and offering walkers a splendid view of Flanders and the Audomarois.
