Vieux-Condé is a municipality in the suburbs of Valenciennes and is located on the Belgian border. It has belonged in turn to the Kingdom of France, the Spanish Netherlands and the Southern Netherlands. It developed particularly in the 19th century thanks to the coal industry. From this period, several pits and a railway station remain. More recently, its economy has also been based on the development of metallurgy. Among the monuments to visit, you will find the Sainte-Thérèse church also called Notre-Dame de la Solitude chapel or the turret of the soldier Beaulieux, who bravely slowed down the German progression in 1940 on the outskirts of the city.
