The village of Raismes was born in the Middle Ages in the 12th century around a monastery. It developed over the centuries until it became a small industrial town thanks to its coal deposits. Metallurgy developed and factories flourished. Raismes was not spared by the crisis that affected this industry. The city is now turned towards tourism. It must be said that it benefits from a major asset with its magnificent forest, suitable for beautiful walks. Among the must-see sites are the Mare à Goriaux, which offers a superb view of the forest, as well as the remains of the Vicoigne Abbey and the Sainte-Cécile Church.
