South of Bergues is the village of Quaëdypre. Appearing in the 11th century, this village of nearly 1,000 inhabitants has the Saint-Omer church, a beautiful early 17th century church with beautiful furniture and remains of the original 12th century construction. Although Quaëdypre was rather spared during the First World War, a cemetery was nevertheless created to bury the soldiers who died in the British military hospital of Bergues. It has 89 tombs on a surface area of 371 m2.
