This village, which gave its name to its famous cheese, is a smiling little town, where the Helpe mineure flows, giving it a picturesque, bucolic charm. Maroilles remains the best-known and most esteemed cheese of the Nord region, as delicious cooked hot as enjoyed cold. Every year, on August 15, the town celebrates the "flamiche" (Maroilles tart) festival. Maroilles is also home to one of the region's biggest flea markets, held on the second or third Sunday in June. Maroilles also boasts a famous mill dating back to 1575.
