This building is dedicated to Saint Folquin, bishop who died in Esquelbecq in 855 and was a cousin of Charlemagne.
The church of Esquelbecq is original, it is indeed a hallekerke, a church-hall: the central nave and the side naves are of equal height and equal width. The building is dedicated to Saint Folquin, bishop who died in Esquelbecq in 855 and was a cousin of Charlemagne. The building has been altered several times and was registered as a historical monument in July 1945. It is worth seeing for its exterior facade made of white stones and red bricks, its wooden ceiling studded with stars and its Romanesque tower accessible at the end of a staircase of 75 steps.
