"History and nature" are the two key words chosen by the commune to define itself! History lovers know it: the village of Bouvines is indeed famous for having hosted the battle of the same name in 1214 which opposed the troops of the king of France Philippe Auguste to a coalition of Flemish, German and French princes and lords with some English contingents, headed by the emperor Otton of Brunswick called Otton IV. Among the places to visit, the gothic church Saint-Pierre, the fountain Saint-Pierre (the legend tells that Philippe Auguste would have rested there before the battle), as well as the commemorative obelisk.
