THE FORTIFIED CHURCH

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

Isolated on a height overlooking the Oise valley, the Fortified Church of the th century is located between two villages: Flavigny-le-Grand and Beaurain. It was used at the time of refuge to the populations affected by the invader. The large square dungeon, semi-stone, semi-brick, attached to two cylindrical towers, gives the building a military look. It consisted of two floors, one with chimney and lethal, the other with a bretèche that defended the entrance. Two identical towers flanking the bedside and reinforce this sense of strength and deterrence. Very damaged during the First World War, it has been restored many times and it is now a welcoming place. Its privileged site and defensive capabilities make it one of the most visited churches of the Thiérache. As follows: The church of Beaurain is illuminated outdoors on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
