This old city, whose tangled, winding streets are filled with shadows from which mysterious gargoyles sometimes emerge, was created around a Benedictine abbey in the 8th century. It was taken in 1212 by Simon de Montfort, before coming under the protection of Saint-Louis. The town grew rapidly until the Hundred Years' War. Saint-Antonin has preserved its picturesque alleyways and medieval appearance intact. Later, the town's fortunes were made by the tanners who benefited from the water of the two rivers. Recognized for its geographical beauty by the Natura 2000 network, the town was awarded the "active and sporty town" label in 2016.
