This old fortified village, built in terraces on the banks of the Aveyron, bears witness to the passage of the monk-soldiers known as the Templars. In the 11th century, Montricoux became a possession of the Vaour Knights Templar, who founded a commandery here. The former château now houses the Musée Marcel-Lenoir, a renowned painter of the 19th and 20th centuries and a former figure of Montparnasse, where he frequented Modigliani and Fernand Léger. Other old residences, in the shadow of castles and keeps, recall the prosperity of yesteryear. In addition to the present-day mill, there were two other mills, at Mouline and Embarre.
