In Occitan, montjòia means "a block of stone used as a boundary marker or to consecrate a memory". Perched on its rocky outcrop, the bastide of Montjoi is a medieval town founded in the 13th century by Alphonse de Poitiers. It is a haven of peace with cobbled streets lined with elegant houses made of Quercy stone and red brick. As in the Middle Ages, you will follow the covered way which dominates the surrounding countryside and the valley of the Séoune which you will discover thanks to the orientation table. You will pass through the 14th century ogival gateway and walk along the half-timbered and corbelled houses of the 14th and 15th centuries.
