Notre-Dame de Montauban Cathedral, at the highest point of the old city, considered a masterpiece of classical art

The same year that the Edict of Nantes was revoked, King Louis XIV decided to build a new cathedral to better assert Catholicism in the former Protestant stronghold. The best architects followed the construction from a distance. The construction began in 1692 and was not completed until 1739. It is considered a masterpiece of classical art, its immaculate white façade standing out in a cityscape dominated by red brick. Located at the highest point of the old town, it is visible from the left bank of the Tarn.

Impressionnante!!! Blanche, avec sa toiture verte cuivrée, la cathédrale est en plein centre de la ville. Prochainement un jardin recouvrera le parking situé en face afin de la mettre davantage en valeur. Cependant, son intérieur est un peu dépouillé.

C'est un très bel édifice en pierres blanches, situé dans le cœur de MONTAUBAN, proche du centre ville. Il détonne singulièrement dans une ville dominée par ses vieilles bâtisses en briques rouges.
A noter, son portail central qui est le plus haut d'Europe.
