At the confluence of the Tarn and Aveyron rivers, Lafrançaise has well earned the name "Belvédère du Quercy" for its dominant position overlooking the Tarn valley. The site, occupied since Neolithic times, became a bastide town in the 13th century when it joined the kingdom of France under the name of Villa Francese. Admire the pretty brick facades, the churches of Notre-Dame-de-Lapeyrouse and Saint-Georges-de-Lafrançaise, the Pontalaman waterfalls and the Francour abbey. A green resort, Lafrançaise is also a destination for vacations and entertainment, with its leisure center and street arts festival, the Nuit blanche de Lafrançaise in July.
