It is in 961 that the name of Deumpantala appears in an official document. In 1628, the commune and its vineyards were the scene of a bloody battle between Protestants and Catholics. With 450 dead, Dieupentale pays a heavy price as well as during the war of 14/18. The etymological origin of the name remains mysterious with several hypotheses: one referring to mythology and the god Pan, another to the Visigoths who would have given this place the name of the deep valley (Deop tal) and the last referring to the Gallic patronymic name "Diopantus". Situated between Montauban and Toulouse, the commune is experiencing a great economic boom.
