A medieval town in a green setting! Originally, Caylus was a castrum mentioned as early as 1176, consisting of a village clustered on the slopes surrounding its castle, overlooking the Bonnette valley. In the mid-13th century, the Count of Toulouse developed Caylus into a true bastide-type town, creating a wide, straight road over the old moats, lined with new districts. Caylus boasts a number of listed buildings and a wealth of architectural treasures to be discovered as you stroll through the medieval streets clinging to the rocky hillside from which the remains of the castle emerge.
