Canals is a village of 630 inhabitants situated on a terrace overlooking the Garonne valley. The lateral canal divides the village into two parts, Canals haut and Villelongue. Located between Toulouse and Montauban, the birth of the small village is in the 3rd century. In the 9th century, the village was called Canaucellas, the origin of which would be linked to a network of canals that flowed into the stream. The Romanesque church was located on the site of the current cemetery and it was in the 17th century that it was moved and built in the center of the village. The economy remained based on agricultural production and from then on, businesses predominated.
