Bruniquel and its castles tower 90 metres above the confluence of the Vère and Aveyron rivers. The listed village has preserved its medieval remains in the heart of the gorge. Legend has it that Queen Brunehaut, daughter of the Visigoth king of Spain, built the first castle in the 6th century and founded the village, which today partly bears her name. In addition to the present-day castle, many other architectural features are also worthy of note. They can be discovered along the narrow streets with their evocative "flowery" names (rue Bombecul, rue Trottegarce) that climb the slope and converge on the castles.
